According to the restaurant rules, every guest has to order at least 2 meals or starter and main dish or main dish and dessert. The restaurant offers a selection of seafood dishes. We checked this restaurant by own experience. Unfortunately, we cannot say that the dishes look particularly special as well as the taste or cutlery boast is in perfect condition. However, it is necessary to mention the high level of service and individual approach. If you are a Russian tourist, you will, most likely, will be served by a native speaker. Also it is necessary to mention the wonderful aquarium, which holds more than a million liters of water, for which, in fact, you pay extra thousand dirham with no regrets. You can walk around the hotel, easily take pictures and videos.

Unfortunately, the restaurant no longer offers the submarine experience since 2014, however, Al Mahara restaurant can now be reached by a gold-plated elevator. Speaking of the gold, it is necessary to mention that the designers used 8000 square meters of 22-carat leaf-gold in the hotel’s interior.

The minimal bill (special lunch) for 2 will be AED 1,000 (approximately USD 270) without drinks.

THE BEST UNDERWATER RESTAURANTSAnd the 1st place goes to real underwater restaurant Ithaa which means literally “mother of pearls”. The restaurant is located at gorgeous hotel Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, situated on two islands joined by bridge. The fee for one night accommodation in this hotel is nearly USD 720 per night (the breakfast included).

To book a table, you should visit the official webpage of the restaurant:

The restaurant Ithaa is located five meters below the surface, offering 180-degree panoramic views of the vibrant coral gardens surrounding it and marine life. The restaurant can accept to 14 guests simultaneously. Ithaa serves its guests contemporary European cuisine. Besides, the restaurant can be booked privately for breakfast, weddings or other special occasions.

The construction of the restaurant began in 2004 in Singapore. The restaurant was designed and constructed by M.J. Murphy Ltd – a design consultancy based in New Zealand.

In October 2004, the construction work was completed including the installation of 5-metre (16 ft) wide acrylic arches, air conditioning and electrical ducts.

On November 1, 2004, Ithaa was lifted onto an ocean-going barge to be transported to the Maldives, which took 16 days to arrive. At this point, Ithaa weighed 175 tonnes.

On November 19, 2004 Ithaa was “sunk” with the help of 85 tonnes of sand ballast loaded into its belly. It was precisely maneuvered onto four steel piles which had been vibro-hammered 4 to 5 meters into the seabed. It was then secured to the steel piles with concrete.

The interesting fact that the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 caused no damage to the restaurant.

By the way, according to the experts, the estimated life span of this restaurant is 20 years only. Thus, you should hurry up if you are going to visit Ithaa.
